The body armor is required to pass definite requirements administered by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) and UK's Home Office Scientific Development Branch. Standards made by these institutions are purposely adhered to test the armor's capacity to endure a variety of impacts so as to offer the utmost protection for its wearer. When the N.I.J. and other regulating bodies started testing and developing performance standards for ballistic resistance, many lives are saved.
